Biosketch

I was born in Guimarães, Portugal, in 1988. I received my MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering in September 2011 (University of Minho, Portugal), and the aim of my research was to analyze the effect of Lokomat robotic guidance force on the motor control of human gait in healthy subjects. In March 2016, I received my PhD in Biomedical Engineering (University of Minho, Portugal). The main goal of my PhD research was to generate meaningful and robust quantitative metrics to assess gait disorders in the clinical setting, with particular interest in stroke and spinal cord injury. From 2016 to Februray 2018, I was a Postdoctoral Research at Feinberg School of Medicine - Northwestern University (Chicago, IL), where I enriched my knowledge on motor control, biomechanics, BMIs and neuroplasticity after SCI. Since March 2018, I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Neural Rehabilitation Group (NRG) - Cajal Institute, CSIC, Spain.

Goals

I am interested in the study of neurological and musculoskeletal systems involved in locomotion and tremor generation/suppression, aiming to advance technology-based neurorehabilitation and clinical assessment.

Research

My research interests include: movement disorders, motor control, electromyography (EMG), functional electrical stimulation (FES), tremor suppression, biomechanics, gait and cycling analysis, neural rehabilitation and rehabilitation robotics.
